BLACKWELL, Artimesia

Source: Greencastle Star Press 24 Dec 1882 p 1

Mrs. Artimesia Blackwell departed this life Oct 30, 1882; aged 66 years 10 months and 5 days.  Sister Blackwell was born in Garrett County, Kentucky Dec 25, 1815.  She, with her parents, emigrated to Putnam County, Ind 2 miles south of Bainbridge, Oct 1829 and at that place was married to Thomas Blackwell, Jan 8, 1839.  They moved to their last residence in Monroe Township, Putnam County, Ind April 1846. She was bereaved                                     of her husband by death Dec 18, 1856.  To her were born 8 daughters and 3 sons; all dead save 3 daughters. Sister Blackwell united with the ME Church in 1834 and lived a consistent member until 1861. In the year 1865 she became a member of the Christian Union Church of Bainbridge in which she lived until the time of her death. Her last illness was protracted through many months. Slowly but surely the patient sufferer continued to drop down to the dark valley and shadow of death until finally, softly and peacefully the gentle spirit took its final flight from the prison house of pain to taste the joy and mingle in the melody of heaven.”  She expressed a readiness, willingness and desire to exchange this life of sorrow for the one of glory and eternal happiness above. The funeral services took place at Brick Chapel, conducted by Elder OHP Abbett, who preached a very interesting and instructive sermon from John 11:25.  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall be alive… WRD.
